“When I Was” was the first poem I ever wrote about my life as a child. It was a difficult one. The struggle was heartbreaking, and in this dilemma I did not have a good relationship with my mother. She was married twice, and both husbands were abusive. This brought damage to my mother and the children that she had.
Out of this I learned to call on God. I said to myself that Jesus loves me, but I was still haunted by the terrible violence that I witnessed against my mother and us (the children).
These poems may seem painful but praise be to God and to the Lord Jesus Christ I was not alone. He brought me through it all and I’m drinking from Jesus Christ’s healing waters. He is teaching me and correcting me when I need correction. His love for me and His loving care is teaching me to love myself.
I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The poems were inspired by the Holy Spirit. My hope is that they will bring peace, comfort to those who need comfort, joy for those who want to rejoice, courage to those who need courage, and most of all, belief and trust in our Lord and Savior King Jesus.
